TIPS FOR CREATING EFFECTIVE HYGIENE ROUTINES FOR PEOPLE OF ALL AGES

Your oral hygiene routine is vital to your oral health. With a good oral hygiene routine, you can help prevent many dental problems from developing, including cavities and gum disease, two of the most common oral health issues.

To help you maintain the best oral health possible, we’ve put together a few tips for creating an effective hygiene routine at home. These tips are helpful for people of all ages!

Brush Your Teeth Twice Per Day

For the best oral health, brush your teeth at least twice every day. We recommend brushing once in the morning and once before bed. Make sure to brush for at least two minutes per session and pay attention to your technique. Try to cover every surface of your teeth, reaching all the nooks and crannies.

Floss Daily

In addition to brushing, you should carefully floss your teeth at least once a day. When you floss, check for blood, swelling, or other signs of gum disease that your dentist should check out. It doesn’t really matter whether you floss during your morning or afternoon oral hygiene routine, as long as it gets done, so choose the time when you’re most likely to follow through with flossing.

Set a Timer or Alarm on Your Phone

If you have trouble remembering to brush or floss your teeth, try setting an alarm on your phone as a reminder. Also, to make sure you brush your teeth for the appropriate time, set a timer on your phone.

Use Products that Encourage You to Follow Through

Choose a toothbrush that encourages you to brush your teeth, whether that’s an electric or a manual toothbrush. Some people find that using an electric toothbrush makes them more likely to brush their teeth, and if that’s the case for you, get an electric toothbrush.

As long as you are brushing your teeth correctly and for the specified amount of time, any type of toothbrush should do the job. However, we do recommend sticking to soft-bristled brushes. Medium and hard bristles can be too harsh on sensitive gum tissue.

Get Professional Dental Cleanings

Finally, you should always schedule regular dental cleanings with your dentist. Most patients should see their dentist at least every six months.
